onCome out and enjoy the balmy weather! On March 29th, the FBYC Junior Spring Opti and Laser Race Teams will begin their season. We have two highly experienced professional coaches who will take our kids to the next level, Bob Lippincott and Cori Radtke! The teams will practice and attend regattas through the end of May. Come and join the fun-Spring is here!
Bob Lippincott-Spring Opti Race Team
Bob began his coaching career at FBYC! He first coached as a CIT for Beginners during Junior Week in 2007.
He began sailing as a child on a Penguin at Tred Avon Yacht Club; and sailed on Tred Avon’s Opti Race Team. He was a member of the US Optimist National Team and represented the United States at the 2006 Lake Garda, Italy, Opti Regatta. He has also coached extensively at Tred Avon.
Bob went to high school at Christchurch, where he was the captain of the Sailing Team his senior year. While at Christchurch his team finished 9th at the National Fleet Racing Championship in St. Petersburg, Florida; 7th at the National Team Racing Championship in Redwood City, California; and twice won the Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association State Championship. After Christchurch, Bob attended Salve Regina University, in Newport, Rode Island; where he sailed on the Varsity Sailing Team all four years. Just one of the many highlights of his college sailing career was winning the 2013 Peter Wenner Rainbow Invitational Regatta in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the first place skipper.
Bob currently serves as the Varsity Assistant Sailing Coach at Christchurch. Following in his family’s tradition, he now campaigns a Star!
Cori Radtke-Spring Laser Race Team
Cori is one of our own! She began sailing at FBYC as a child and was a member of our Laser Race Team, where she was coached by Alejandro Cloos, who is currently the Argentine Yachting Federation Olympic Team Manager. She was hired at age 18 as the second coach of the FBYC Opti Development Team, and coached the team for two highly successful years. Cori also instructed during Opti Kids and Junior Week while in college, and at sailing camps at Old Dominion University.
Cori sailed in high school for Christchurch and Tabor Academy, and in college on the Old Dominion University Varsity Sailing Team.
Just two of her fantastic racing finishes include, while in High School, winning the 2010 New England Women’s Championship; and while at ODU, finishing 4th overall in the 2014 Women’s Nationals.
Cori now coaches for the Norfolk Academy Sailing Team.
The Spring Opti and Laser Teams are geared for juniors who compete in other sports, and most practices are held on Sundays. Families pay only for the days that their junior sails. For additional information, and to register, contact the Team Coordinators, Bo and Camille Bragg, at: bo@braggco.com
