onKaren Soule has agreed to lead the Adult Sailing program in 2016. Karen together husband David have been active in the cruising division aboard their Ericson 38 Soulemate for several years and is excited to bring her many years of racing and cruising experience to this committee position.
The long term mission of the FBYC Adult Sailing program is the development of sailing skills for members and prospective members, including the increased knowledge of boat handling, seamanship, navigation and safety; the furthering of this purpose by the promotion and encouragement of day sailing, racing and cruising. The Program is meant to continue the development of lifelong sailors who will be a great credit to the Fishing Bay Yacht Club and the greater sailing community.
In this role Karen will assist in placing crew members on boats in the Offshore and One Design Divisions. She will work with the Junior Sailing and Offshore programs to creating opportunities that bridge the gap from dinghy sailing to keelboat sailing. As this program develops Karen will look for ways improve “access to boats” for the Young Adult Member initiative; and the next Crew Training Program participants. This program IS NOT intended to be a Learn-To-Sail program although the ASP will assist with coordinating Basic sailing instruction, for members, at one of two local sailing schools. This program will be a platform for all sailors of every level to improve their knowledge of the sport.
