LASER SPRING SERIES #5
Tuesday June 15, 2004 05:52AM
onThe 2004 Spring
Series came to an end for the Laser Fleet with 5 boats participating. The
shifty and unpredictable winds kept the racing close and the solid breeze made
the reaching legs a lot of fun. In the first race Brad Squires got an
early lead and held on throughout the rest of the race. He was followed by
Alain, Jon and Dave.
The rest of the day
belonged to late-comer James Jacobs who won all of the last three
races. With Brad, Jon and Dave on his heels, James was never able to get
too far out ahead waving to passing motor boats as he seemed to motor between
the marks. In the 3rd race of the day all of the boats were neck and neck
all around the course. Brad and James were in a dead heat right until the
finish line when James beat out Brad by merely a few feet. A boat length
or two behind them were Jon and Dave.
Alain did well at
the beginning of the day, but equipment failures caused him to keep falling back
and eventually he had to retire early missing the final
race.
The steady breeze
let up just a bit for the final race, but that didn't make it any less of a
race. James got a comfortable lead and Jon and Brad duked it out for 2nd
and 3rd. Dave followed closely.
All in all, Brad
once again won the day's racing beating out James by just a point. Brad
also took the honors for the entire series accumulating only 43 points in 22
races with one drop. Jon came in 2nd followed by Alain, James, Dave, Rob
and Frank. A total of 7 boats participated in the
series.
