Memorial Day Weekend
Tuesday May 26, 2015 09:58PM
onIt was a beautiful weekend and the club was abuzz Friday-Monday with members and guests enjoying the great weather on the water. Friday evening started with the Young Adult Member group having a cookout with several dozen in attendance.
Saturday the conditions were perfect for a 8.5nm course in the Piankatank River. The persuit race pitted boats of all types ranging from 13-47' against each other. Top 5 finishers were:
- Radio Flyer (Hampton One Design) - Latane Montague
- Schiehallion (Benetau First 305) - Brad Miller
- Red Sky (Hanse 370) - Doug Anderson
- E.L.E. (J/70) - Ainsley Braun
- Grey Ghost (J/24) - Hunter Davidson
Complete Results - big thanks to Jim Raper and team for organizing the racing.
As the racers finished they joined the raft up in Fishing Bay already in progress. It would grow to 29 boats forming a perfect circle making for a great party with folks swimming or boat hopping across or around the circle. Credit to Waddy Garrett and his vision and gentle (litterally) nudging to get the raft up together. Check out these amazing drone photos by Ned Rennolds.
By late afternoon the raft-up disbanded and everyone returned shoreside for some entertainment and dinner. Over 300 meals served (and many more drinks)!
Huge thanks to Paul & Julie Ann Wash for their organization of all of off-racecourse activities.
We hope to make this a tradition and look forward to next year!
