Monnier - Waters Defend Title

onWith much needed assistance and instruction from Alex O'Toole the competitors worked together to get three boats rigged and ready to go. Three teams: Jan and Nica, Kelly and Alex O'Toole, and June Hazlehurst and me - left the beach in a nice 7-10 knot breeze for this exiting event.
Race committee PRO Ric Bauer was ably assisted by flag man Jim Gillespie. In accordance with our instructions, the first windward/leeward race started promptly at noonish. The signals went off without a hitch in spite of distractions associated with bailing the Seacraft.
Jan and Nica got a clean start and smoked the other competitors in the first race. Protest flags almost came out at the start of the second race when Alex was seen taking the helm of the O'Toole boat. The finishes tightened with each successive race as we learned a from our mistakes on how these little boats handle. The excitment brought out spectators from Stove Point (David Lee, Julia and Carmen). After three races, we traded crew - Nica with Kelly, Alex with June and me with Jan. My suspicions that I was holding June back were confirmed as her standings improved with Alex's coaching.
After five races, the group retired to the clubhouse to feast on wine, cheese, and Fig Newtons and discuss our renewed commitment to get more boats on the water next year.
Results by Skipper: Jan - 1st place with 5 points, Kelly - 2nd with 12 points, June - 3rd with 13 points.
We'll get you next year Jan!
