Mothers Day
Friday May 7, 2004 09:56PM
onFor newcomers to Fishing Bay Yacht Club, Mothers Day is sacred, and the club studiously avoids scheduling races for the entire weekend. So what can you do? Come to the club and join in the VIMS activity, enjoy their landing craft displays and their lectures. Alternatively take your mother, or your grandmother out for a sail. If you own a J-105 it's a shoe-in, the maker adverizes the J-105 as a boat that Granny can day sail. Or take the lady out for lunch, she certainly deserves no less. But if you are really ambitious join your Commodore and his first lady on a trip to Washington, DC to join some 100,000 or more mothers asking Congress, some of whom you helped elect, to keep assault weapons off the streets. For perspective an average of 9 school age children are killed each day by guns, way more than the average number of troops killed in Iraq on a daily basis. Two classrooms a week of wasted lives. Think about it. And enjoy your weekend, however you spend it.
