onTHANK YOU FISHING BAY YACHT CLUB!!!
Last Friday we took delivery of our club’s newest RIB! The very next day it was put to work as a safety boat on the junior course at the Open House Regatta, and to ferry passengers to and from the sunflower raft-up. The boat is a 17’ Apex, and is the third RIB, and sixth coach boat, in our fleet. It is perfect for coaching juniors and makes a perfect safety and mark boat for both the Offshore and One-Design Divisions.
This year we will have 44 kids on our four summer race teams alone-and this boat will be put to use during Junior Week, Spring/Fall Race Teams, Summer Race Teams and all of our home regattas! The teams will race from Massachusetts to Louisiana in 2015, as well as at every major club on the Chesapeake Bay. Due to the support of our club, our kids will have the best-and safest-boats to support them!
At the Open House Regatta we had 11 juniors racing on the Opti/Laser Radial course, and one junior raced a Full Rig Laser on the adult course. The top three place finishers on the Opti Course were: John Vail-first, Guthrie Braun-second and Nathan Smith-third overall; the top finisher on the Laser Radial Course was Jackson Montague; and Luke Hayes finished 9th out of 29 boats on a Full Rig Laser on the Portsmouth adult course.
One week before the Open House Regatta some of our past and current juniors sailed to outstanding finishes at the Laser ACCs (where our coach boats served as on-the-water judges’ boats): 2014 graduates Alexander Hanna won the Radial Division and Eric Roos finished 7th in the loaded Full Rig Division; and in his very first Laser regatta, current Opti Race Team member Boyd Bragg finished second in the final Radial race at the ACCs!
Thank you FBYC for your support of our fabulous Junior Program!
