onYou've all seen the website news about the microburst tornado we experienced at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA on Tuesday afternoon. Here are a few photos of the scene before and after.
Before - was taken on Saturday afternoon. You can see that CYC is the picture of order. The first 9 Flying Scots launched were assigned spots at the dock. The remaining 55 were assigned moorings in the harbor. We felt so "special" to be at the dock along with several members of the Board of Governors.
After - shows how the docks looked not long after the storm. Boat number 10 is our "3Sixty5". Yes, that's her mast bent like an "L" across the dinghy rack. We had been floating next to the dock with another boat outboard of us. The other boat is upside down in the water in the right hand side of the photo.
After 2 - Shows the scene from another angle. In the background you can see Len Guenther and Mike Miller bailing Len's "Wind Dancer" and preparing for a tow to the Eastern Yacht Club for retrieval.
After 2 - shows the scene from another angle. In the background you can see Len Guenther and Mike Miller bailing Len's "Wind Dancer" and preparing for a tow to the Eastern Yacht Club for retrieval. Guenther boat righted - Len's boat was in the path of the destruction and was turtled. Len and Josh Guenther and Mike Miller were the first to leap into action and get righted. They were bailing feverishly when Ric and I arrived on the scene and got this shot. You can see several other Flying Scot's turtled in the background. Number 48 belongs to Harry Carpenter, the owner of Flying Scot. "Wind Dancer" has a few nicks and bruises and needs a new mast and spinnaker pole, but is otherwise in pretty good shape.
Ric, Mike Miller, John Hubbard, Hans Noordanus and Hans' crew John were able to get 3Sixty5 untangled and floating within a couple of hours so that she should be towed to Eastern Yacht Club for retrieval at their ramp.
