Sailing World article re: Leukemia Cup

onIncluded are a touching letter from my law partner Doug Garrou who rode with me on LOON as Mark Boat and who has two autistic sons, one with Leukemia. No doubt, his letter, and perhaps our success with FS NACs kept Deltaville and FBYC fresh in the editors' minds.
Also included is the editor's monthly column which mentions Deltaville as being one of the "also ran" small towns with great sailing programs, as an outtake to a major article on America's great sailing towns.
Most interestingly, one can see from the criteria for the finalists in the main article (not included here), where we have program shortfalls that keep us from being on the short list of the greatest sailing towns. The editors' criteria were:
"We had our demands: we had to have weeknight beer can racing - that would be our "in." There had to be a community sailing program from which we could poach new and eager crew. Sailing conditions had to be reliable, there had to be a walk-in fleet so we wouldn't have to start anew. And, of course there had to be one good watering hole."
We know we have great conditions. We have walk-in fleets in Flying Scots, Lasers, Mobjacks and Front Runners, and a movement is afoot to form a J 105 Fleet. This Friday, Lud Kimbrough and I will meet with the YMCA leadership to discuss options for community sailing. The Laser fleet has tried to institute weeknight racing. Possibly, a thriving community sailing program would facilitate more weeknight racing.
These should be among the Club's priorities next year.
