Second Junior "Dog Days" Labor day, Monday, September 6
Thursday September 2, 2004 12:39PM
onThe Junior Divison Staff has put a lot of effort into making this a memorable event. Please plan to attend. This will give you something to do while the old dogs sail in their One Design Race and lick their wounds from the Stingray Point Regatta.
The Junior Program conducted the first of two Dog Days Series Sunday, August 22. We had excellent participation on the first day with numerous Optis and three 420s. A highlight of the day was the appearance of an unidentified canine Race Committee. The Committee Chair was so furry and ferocious that he has been sentenced to two weeks in the pound cage. Only with your support is he likely to get out on Monday.A few highlights of the first day are shown in Rob's Summer Photos
The objective of Dog Days is to accomplish the goal of making sailing "more fun." While it is conducted in a "race" environment in which some racing dogma may be incidentally absorbed, the objective is to have a "Doggone Good Time". This first day of this event on August 22 included Dog Flag making, Dog Bone and Walk the Dog Race Courses, as well as a Pinata on shore. Winners were awarded trophy Dog Bowls full of candy and finished one race by slurping a bottle of water from a dog bowl. Schedule: - Registration and Make-up Dog Flag making 0900 at the "Dog House" (Junior Shack) - Skippers Meeting 1000 - find out about "Dog Bone", "Walk the Dog", "Chase the Dog" and other canine courses. - Followed by a game of "Tag", another Pinata and Canine Cookout of Hotdogs to eat. All Juniors should plan to attend the second race of the series, on Monday, September 6 with more surprises in store.
The Big Dogs will all be there. The rest will stay under the porch and go to school the next day with their tails between their legs. So take the mainsheet in your teeth and walk the dog on Labor(ador) Day.
This is Coach Rob Wright's last day on the job. Don't miss the opportunity to see him off and thank him for a job well done and ask him to please come back next year.
