The Start of the One Design Spring Series.
Saturday the 30th of April was almost a picture-perfect day for the start of the One Design Spring Series. Goldilocks temperatures, forecasted for 7-10 kts of breeze, partly cloudy, in short, a beautiful day on the water.
Even better, we had 18 boats registered, 16 sailed in three (3) one design fleets with one (1) Portsmouth boat. The Flying Scots, with A and a B fleets (ability grouped), ICLA Dinghy’s (Lasers) and the new Melges fleet were all well represented.
We managed to get in three races, in increasingly shift wind conditions. Trying to fetch the windward mark was mystery game of guessing which way the shift would go. Keeping spinnakers’ full was a challenge on the downwind legs.
A huge thank you to the race committee volunteer team, led by David Hinkle, and Social Chairs, Caroline & Ian Patrick put on an easy and very interesting social with a variety of snacks and finger foods.
All made for a great start to the series. If you are a one design sailor or want to learn, come on out for the Adult Sailing Festival on May 14th (day sailing and instruction) and the next one design race (ability grouped fleets) in the series on the May 15th.
