Second day of racing about to begin in Newport after long postponement ashore for light air. FBYC will be in J70 and Red Fleet will sail in that boat until number of races in J70 and Sonars are equalized before swapping boats. Racing is between Rose and Goat Island South of the bridge with a light southwesterly blowing up the bay from over Ft. Adams and Sail Newport. Starting line is about 1/4 mile down bay of the Newport end of the bridge span. Wind about 5-7 knots. Flat water with non-directional chop. STINGRAY POINT REGATTA had 49 boats racing in mostly moderate to light breezes.  PROPHET, Noel Clinard’s Sonar, sailed by Blake Kimbrough, John Wake, and Matt Braun, won the Brent Halsey, Jr. Memorial Trophy.  The 2012 Stingray Point Regatta (SPR) at Fishing Bay Yacht Club ‘tween the banks of Jackson Creek and Fishing Bay in Deltaville, provided a great racing and partying opportunity over the Labor Day Weekend.  FBYC hosts the two day regatta on Saturday and Sunday with the preceding Stingray Light Race on Friday.  SPR divided their 8 fleets between two courses and everyone got in 5 races over the two days.  RESULTS:  PHRF A0 (6 boats) – 1. NYYC Invitational Cup Qualifying Starts Today

Fishing Bay Yacht Club is among the teams in the 2012 US Qualifying Series racing in a split-fleet format that will end with the top three teams earning a berth for the 2013 Invitational Cup. Champions from most of the major one designs and offshore classes are represented on the team rosters including former Olympians and collegiate All Americans.  Starting Wednesday, these 100 sailors will be sailing J/70s and NYYC's fleet of Sonars in competition.

On behalf of our team, we'd like to offer a huge THANK YOU to our Campaign Head, Noel Clinard.

Over the past three weeks he has rigged and derigged his Sonar 'Prophet' three times; logged thousands of miles driving/towing from Deltaville to Falmouth, MA to Rochester, NY back to Deltaville, back to Rochester and then home again to Richmond.  Along the way he also served on race committee for the New England Champs and spent 9 nights in hotels away from his family in support of our Team.

We truly can't thank you enough for all of your time, effort and contributions to the campaign.  THANK YOU NOEL!!!

73rd ANNUAL ONE-DESIGN REGATTA at Fishing Bay Yacht Club experienced thunderstorms and heavy rain on Saturday afternoon, but yesterday brought a gentle 5-8 from the North.  The 112 boat regatta raced on four courses including a special Optimist course for 17 youngsters.  The San Juan 21 fleet of 14 boats was sailing for the class (East Coast) National Championship. Branin Thorn won the spinnaker group title and Mike Evans the working sails group for 2012.  John Aras sailing in the Flying Scot Fleet won the John R. The Fishing Bay YC Sonar Team, Blake Kimbrough, skipper, John Wake, jib/bowman and tactician, and Matt Braun, middle crew, finished 7th of 17 at the Sonar New England Championship Regatta sailed this past weekend in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Races were conducted just outside Falmouth Harbor by FYC in moderate to heavy air and massive 3-4 knot Woods Hole current. The team was very competitive in boat speed and were 4th after day 1, but slipped to 7th on Sunday.

FBYC Again Invited to Premiere NYYC Event

2010icqualifingseries12The New York Yacht Club has invited FBYC to compete in the 2012 U.S. Qualifying Series (“USQS”) for the 2013 Invitational Cup (“IC”). This is the second time we have been invited to this premiere event. In 2010, the Club Team of Travis Weisleder, Rob Whittemore, Lud Kimbrough and Ben Buhl brought us honor by finishing in the top ten finalist round of the USQS. It is an extraordinary recognition of FBYC for us to be re-invited to the most prestigious event in amateur Corinthian yachting.

I am completely amazed how rich the "Corinthian spirit" has been at our club and how many members are volunteering for our upcoming two day regatta.  After a year of being bound by a computer our kids finally have the opportunity to be on the water again to represent our amazing sailing program and club.  We are hosting the Virginia State Championship which is also the season opener for CBYRA.  With registration open for about a month we have been successfully amassing an army of volunteers to serve over 100 sailors along with their family and friends.  As far as the eye can see will be an armada of kids geared and ready to give it their all June 26-27th …
