The Laser Fleet closed out their series with a Frostbite day of racing on Sunday in light winds with 9 boats.  We had a little bit of a mix up on the scores and I want to apologize for not checking them before the awards as it wasn't until later that we realized they were missing the drop and so what we thought was the final order on Sunday was incorrect.

Stephen Sparkman sailed great all day putting up 3 bullets and ultimately won the day by just 1 making this his first podium finish since returning to the club and the Laser this summer.  Jon Deutsch ended up 2nd and Clark Dennison finished 3rd.

The Laser Fleet ended their sailing season and the sailing season at Fishing Bay Yacht Club on Saturday with a 7-race 'frostbite' regatta. With temperatures approaching 70, mostly sunny skies and light winds, there was a greater risk of sunburn than frostbite.

Nine sailors came out including 3 sailors from the Hampton Roads Laser fleet who made the trip - Mike Moore, Robert Suhay and Frank Patch. We also had 2 of our junior race team members - Luke Hayes and Nina Willms who both sailed Full rigs with the adults. FBYC regulars Mike Toms, Jon Deutsch, Alain Vincey and Frank Murphy rounded out the fleet.

The light and shifty conditions made the first two races a bit of chutes and ladders …

This Saturday the Laser Fleet will hold their final and the club's final organized race of 2014 at Fishing Bay Yacht Club. This is also the 4th and final day of the Laser Series and will help decide the winner of the Blanton Bowl

Expect air and water temperatures to be in the 60's so dress accordingly. Wetsuit/Drysuit not required, but if you start swimming, plan to sail in immediately and park yourself in front of a fireplace.

This coming Sunday, November 11^th, is VETERANS DAY - time to remember and honor all of ours!

At the FBYC Laser Frostbite Regatta yesterday 9 brave Laser racers struck out in the cold and damp.  They got in 5 races before they came to their senses.  Jon Deutsch, from host club FBYC, won the day with a string of  2-5-1-1-1, followed by  Hampton Roads sailors Neil Ford (HYC) ( 1-3-3-3-2), and Robert Suhay (4-2-2-2-3), who were  2^nd and 3^rd overall respectively.  Principal Race Officer Lud Kimbrough and his committee tussled with shifty, fluky North and West winds to make it happen.

Fishing Bay Yacht Club finished up their sailing season with Laser Fleet hosting the frostbite regatta.  9 hardy sailors came out for 5 races in light winds that shifted between west and north. With short, double lap, modified windward leeward courses there were plenty of opportunities to pass. The key to the day was really looking up the course and getting in the best position to get the best new wind.

The final sailing event of the 2011 season at Fishing Bay Yacht Club was the Laser Frostbite regatta on Sunday.  7 Lasers came out for some short-course racing in North East winds in Fishing Bay.  Under mostly clear skies with water temperatures in the 50's and air temperatures in the 60's our PRO Mike Karn got us 7 races.

Ron Thompson was the most consistent with only one race out of the top 3 to win the day.  Michael Moore, also with all but one top 3 finishes edged out Jon Deutsch for 3rd.

The Laser Fleet finished their season on Sunday at the Laser Frostbite Regatta that turned out to be a perfect fall day of air and water temperature around 60 degrees. The wind started out of the east at 13 and shifted around to the north and dropped to 8 by the time 5 races were sailed.

14 sailors attended including guests from Alexandria, Washington DC, Eastern North Carolina, Virginia Beach and Richmond. PRO Henry Latell and his crew of Bob Fleck and Jerry Latell ran the races and kept up with the changing winds.

I am completely amazed how rich the "Corinthian spirit" has been at our club and how many members are volunteering for our upcoming two day regatta.  After a year of being bound by a computer our kids finally have the opportunity to be on the water again to represent our amazing sailing program and club.  We are hosting the Virginia State Championship which is also the season opener for CBYRA.  With registration open for about a month we have been successfully amassing an army of volunteers to serve over 100 sailors along with their family and friends.  As far as the eye can see will be an armada of kids geared and ready to give it their all June 26-27th …
