There aren’t many things to look forward to in getting old – but Laser Masters sailing is definitely one of them. This was my first time sailing Florida Laser Masters week having just qualified a few months ago. The week consists of 3 events – Florida Masters in West Palm, Masters Midweek Madness in Sarasota and Masters Midwinters in Tampa. For over a decade now I’ve been running the Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Regatta at Fishing Bay Yacht Club and so I was familiar with masters sailing in general. I’ve also traveled to numerous ILCA-NA events from ACC to Nationals to North Americans and was eager to try out Masters week. Unfortunately, my schedule would …
We've got 40 boats registered and a few more expected to join us for some great sailing and food. As always - we've got a great group of volunteers and we thank them for their work to make this happen. And to the sailors - thanks for putting this on your calendar every year and making this part of your fall.
Here's a few things to know as you make your way to Deltaville:

The 34th Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Regatta was one cool regatta and Mike Hecky (Riverton Yacht Club) was coolest of them all winning the first race and hanging on to win the championship. Cool temperatures, fluky winds and a power outage were not enough to dampen the spirits of the 45 sailors all over the age of 35 competing for the Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship at Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville, Virginia.
On the first day a long course was set just south of Fishing Bay in the Piankatank River. Throughout the race the wind eased off from 8-11 at the start and Hecky was first to finish in just under an hour. Following that race the wind …

Winter may be here now, but that doesn't mean we can't relive the sailing season and think about all of the wonderful sailing we'll be doing in just a few short months. Here's some video from the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championship in October.
Over 40 Lasers were at Fishing Bay Yacht Club for the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championship where John MacCausland (Cooper River Yacht Club) had all top 3 finishes in 8 races to win his 2nd Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship in 3 years and the overall Masters ACC title.
The weekend started with 12-17 knot wind out of the west and partly cloudy skies, air temp in the mid 70's and water temperature 69 degrees. The first race was a single lap modified windward-leeward where New Jersey natives MacCausland and Mike Hecky (Riverton Yacht Club) started out 1-2. The 2nd race was two laps on the same course in similar conditions and Severn Sailing Association's Jonathan Phillips got …

What do you do with 45 Laser Masters sailors while waiting for the wind to fill?
PADDLE BOARD RACES!!!!!
Two teams of sailors competed in relay races to round the bouy and come back to the beach. Each trip required a different technique of boarding - stand up, sit down, two person, do a trick, etc.
Lucky for us the wind filled a short time later we were able to sail.
The 2013 Chesapeake Bay Lasers Masters regatta is coming up on September 7-8 and we would like to invite you to come sail with us. This event is a must-do event for any Laser Masters (age 35+) sailor and why not make this the year you come sail with us!
This year the masters event is at a new September date (to make way for Masters NA's in October on our regular date). In fact - we might even still have the pool open!
And not only is FBYC home to one of the best sailing sites on the Chesapeake Bay - it's also known for one of the best regatta dinners. Chef Alain Vincey has a …
With 45 Lasers, good wind and great help on the race committee and in the kitchen, we couldn't have asked for a better weekend at the 31st Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship. John MacCausland from Cooper River Yacht Club came away the overall winner of the 7 race series. John bested masters sailors in various age groups, all over the age of 35, hailing from MI, MA, NY, NJ, OH, PA, VA, NC, MD, and Washington DC.
Racing got off to a slow start on Saturday when the competitors drifted to the race course in a light northerly. 3 hours and a couple blown off starts later the wind finally settled in from the east at 6-8 knots allowing us …

Over 43 Laser Masters sailors are set to take part in the 31st Laser Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship at Fishing Bay Yacht Club this weekend. That should be an attendance record for a non-ACC event at FBYC going back to the early 90’s. This year we have boats hailing from MI, MA, NY, NJ, OH, PA, VA, NC, MD, and Washington DC.
This afternoon the sailors arrived and some went for practice while 20 sailors met for a pot-luck dinner at the club.

Laser Masters sailors have a completely rebuilt trophy to sail for at the Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship. The trophy features the ceramic plate with a painted picture of Lasers on Fishing Bay. The plate was part of the original trophy presented by Alain Vincey in the early years of the regatta. The new trophy is built like a serving tray with high sides to protect the plate from being broken.
Jon Deutsch and his father Stan built the trophy in a little over a week at the beginning of October and the trophy was unveiled at the regatta in mid-October. Read more about the building of the trophy and view more pictures on Jon's …
