onIn addition to Opti Kids and Junior Week, there are many upcoming Junior Division Events for your sailors to have fun and get on the water at FBYC:
May 31 through June 2: The University of Virginia Sailing Team will be practicing at our club! The team has qualified for and is training for the ICSA Dinghy National Championship to be held June 3-6 at St. Mary’s College, Maryland. We are excited to host the team! Collegiate sailing is an important next step for many of our junior sailors. By my count, we currently have seven former junior members competing in the college ranks. Five of our current junior parents are graduates of the UVA sailing team. One of our own, Ellen Hubbard, is on the team. Please stop by and say hello; their coach and Ellen would love to see you and explain the UVA program to you. They are always looking for hot prospects heading off to college in the Fall! (Eric? Graeme? Nathaniel? Noah? Alexander?) Our 420s will be unavailable to our members during the practices on May 31 through June 2. Check out the UVA Sailing Team’s website: http://www.virginiasailing.com
June 21 through June 22: Commonwealth of Virginia Junior Championship Regatta. All juniors are invited to sail. Little or no experience racing? No problem! We will be running an Opti Green Fleet Clinic for all those new to racing, with professional coaching and support on the water. We will have a Mexican Taco Bar on Saturday evening. Additional information and on-line registration may be found at: http://www.fbyc.net/Events/2014/Events/2014/06.21.junior/ssi.dtml
July 26: FUN SAIL! The name says it all. Enjoy a fun day sailing the club’s Optis, Lasers or 420s under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Enjoy water mellon and blindfolded “races” and a cruise to Stove Point to swim. For “kids” of all ages. Additional information and on-line registration may be found at: http://www.fbyc.net/Juniors/Funsail
Through the end of August: We will be offering Private Lessons in the club’s Optis, Lasers and 420s. The lessons will be tailored to fit the needs of the individual, and are a great follow-up to Opti Kids and Junior Week. Additional information and on-line registration may be found at: http://www.fbyc.net/Juniors/Private
Finally, I want to send out a great big THANK YOU to Paul and Julie Ann Wash and Doug and Jennifer Bendura for all their work bringing us Opti Kids and Junior Week 2014! The amount of time, effort and work they have given is truly amazing.
