Spam Problem - We are still working on our spam problem and the results are still not where we want them. For example, we learned one of our forwards was forwarding about 20 spam messages per day to a member, but because he had a good spam filter, it was not a big deal for him. But for us, it causes us to be rated as a terrible sender of spam. As suggested last month, I have now deleted all email forwards at www.fbyc.net except for a couple who have asked to keep them. Hopefully that will eliminate a major problem.

On-line Entry - minor change - In response to people inadvertently entering a quantity of items far in excess of what they want - the most recent being 100 Leukemia Cup entries @ $100 each - the number of items you can enter on the On-line entry form is now restricted to single digit, so it is now impossible to enter a number larger than 9. If you must have 20 tee-shirts, or 12 dinner tickets, you can increase the number using Change Quantities feature on the payment page. People who mistakenly pay for more than they intended to buy will have the 5% credit card charge that FBYC has to pay deducted from any refund!! (Wondering why? Just ask us how much the most recent customer error cost FBYC!)

Home Page redesign – the board approved the concept of removing all but the latest results from the home page and putting them on a More Results and Photos page – which has now been done. Hopefully it will be easier for readers to see the latest news postings and the links to register for the next 10 events.

Crew Finder – Next is a rework of the Crew Finder – to make it more useful to both skippers and crew. We plan to offer skippers to ability to add themselves as “Desirous of receiving calls from people who want to crew” just like crews can list themselves as available. In that regard, we have eliminated the iwanttosail email list – which hasn’t been used and seems to be dated. The first draft of possible Crew Finder text is under Read More.

Many skippers at FBYC would be happy to take on new crew members. Often finding them is only done by hit and miss word of mouth. Our "Crew Finder" is a tool that helps Skippers and potential crew make contact, learn a bit about each other, share schedules and set some sailing dates. So, if you are looking for a ride, follow the steps below to add your name to the list of available crew. Needy skippers will frequently check the list, and follow the steps outlined to make contact. Also you might want to review the "Needy Skippers" list and initiate contact directly.

Skippers seeking crew be sure to list your boat and your on the "Sail with us on ..." list. Just go to the " I'm a 'Needy Skipper' link and sign up your boat. The link also provides a way to drop off the list when your needs are filled.
