Two Laser and Byte events in Annapolis in May 19-20

If you can't participate in FBYC's final offshore spring series and and one-design races on May 19-20, you may be interested in two events in the Annapolis Area. THE SPINSHEET MAGAZINE RITES OF SPRING for Lasers and Bytes will be held May 19. Parker Garrett and Blake Kimbrough are former winners. There are number of very exciting events coming up the weekend of May 19-20 in the Annapolis area. First and foremost is the 5th Annual Spinsheet Rites of Spring regatta. "This is the bast damn one day regatta on the Bay. Laser sailors of all levels live for this regatta. Events such as this are why we keep sailing," says Ted Morgan, Annapolis Laser fleet captain. There are lots of short course races close to shore, with an unbelievable amount of give-aways for ALL competitors. The party afterwards is full of rum and beer for the eligibles, as well as great food and soda. Here are all the details:

Open to Lasers and BYTEs, adults and juniors

Entry fee: $25 before May 10 and $35 after May 10.

This event includes tons of special prizes, give-aways, food, beverages, photos, and a t-shirt. All are included in the entry fee. Sailors over 21 will enjoy Mount Gay Rum and Otter Creek Beer at the post-race reception. All sailors receive prizes donated by some of the marine industry's leading companies.

Racing is managed and launching facilities provided by the Annapolis YC.

In 2000 30 Laser sailors and 11 Byte sailors participated. Four races were sailed in each class.

TRED AVON SPRING INVITE (5/20):

There's no better way to end the weekend than by heading over to historic Oxford, MD for Tred Avon Yacht Club's Laser Spring Invite. This one day, Sunday only, event is a must-do for everyone. Situated on Maryland's eastern shore, it's only 50 minutes from Annapolis and the venue offers some of the best Laser sailing North of Smith Island (just to keep the Fishing Bay people happy!). Fantastic sandy beach launching, great people, flat water, good breeze....what more do you want? Get there by 9am for registration.
