I have a 1995 optimist dinghy for sale. The boat comes with aluminum spars, fiberglass blades, North sail, and a Seitech dolly. The boat is in good condition with the usuall wear and tear of an older boat. It would be perfect for the beginner or with a new sail, it could be made competitive. I am asking $875 which includes a few extra items. Please call 757-865-6659. The boat is located in Yorktown, Virginia.

Nereid in 12th position (217 n.m. from Bermuda) by distance at 8pm Tuesday night, but possibly with a little personal wind, while others in light air or becalmed. Lead boat is 157 n.m. out.
The 2004 Spring
Series came to an end for the Laser Fleet with 5 boats participating. The
shifty and unpredictable winds kept the racing close and the solid breeze made
the reaching legs a lot of fun. In the first race Brad Squires got an
early lead and held on throughout the rest of the race. He was followed by
Alain, Jon and Dave.
The rest of the day
belonged to late-comer James Jacobs who won all of the last three
races. With Brad, Jon and Dave on his heels, James was never able to get
too far out ahead waving to passing motor boats as he seemed to motor between
the marks. In the …

As of 1840 hours, Sunday evening, Eric and crew were 398 nautical miles out from Bermuda (596 total distance.) The lead boat was at 353 nautical miles.
Eric Powers is skipper. The crew includes three FBYCers Ric Bauer, Jon Moody & Jim Morrison. Dyk Luben and Jeff Sigmon round out the crew.
To make it interesting, Glory Days (a boat out of Norfolk/Hampton) is also in the race and has the same PHRF rating of 114. It will be fun to watch how those two do in a little head-to-head racing.
BLACK SEAL CUP-SOUTHERN BAY RACE
WEEK: TITILLATION WINS OVERALL TITLE, DOMINATES 17 BOAT PHRF
B: Chessie served up a varied menu over the three day event.
56 "big boats" sailed on two venues in all kinds of
conditions over the weekend. BSC-SBRW opened Friday on a wild and wooly
day, winds averaging a steady mid to high teens (highest gust reported was 25
knots) with wind against current making for significant square waves (three and
one-half feet). The second day Chessie offered up perfect racing
conditions with breezes going southwest in the 10-14 range. And,
Day 3 brought frustration because of the light and variable
conditions. The RC did get in one race on each venue on Sunday …
The FBYC Laser fleet
once again saw great racing in some fluky winds on Fishing Bay.
The first
race was one to play the shifts on and Alain played best; Jon, Brad and Dave
weren't far behind.
The north-west wind
lightened for the 2nd race and all of the boats had trouble 'beating' to the
first 'weather' mark. The fleet eventually rounded and Brad found a slight
breeze way out in the middle of the channel while the rest of the lasers drifted
about in the middle of the course. Despite protest to the committee to
wave off the race, the boats continued on their slow journey to the bottom
mark. Sure enough …
FBYC will be hosting a sailing performance clinic this Saturday, June 5th. If you've been wanting to take the step up to racing your boat, or want to get more comfortable and improve on your racing skills, this is the time and place to do it. Instruction and guidance will be provided by two staff members from Steve Colgate's well-known, Offshore Sailing School, along with several experienced, FBYC racers. The platform for instruction will be two Colgate 26 boats, along with Flying Scots. The clinic will start at 10 am, so whether your interest is offshore or one-design racing, come on out and learn more about racing and how to race well.

A few important notes about this weekend's racing and events.
The Urbanna Race is the the first leg of this year's Long Distance Series. The series' winners in each participating class will get a worthy award consisting of a Weems and Plath gimbal mounted lamp and placque, so, get off to a good start in the Series this weekend and/or at least assure your chances over the duration by at least competing on Saturday. These four races are a good test of local knowledge and a little more challenge to seamanship and strategy, so besides a nice trophy, some unique Club pride goes to the winners!

We have five cruising/racing events scheduled for the months of June and July, 2004. Plan to join the Cruising Division as we continue to explore the Chesapeake together, and push ourselves a little in racing with two different events. If you have your PHRF rating then join the non-spinnaker group of racers at the Leukemia Cup Regatta, or do a more leisurely sail/race at our Cruising Regatta that will be chaired by George and Lyons Burke. There is something for everyone. Please note the change in venue for the previously scheduled trip to Crisfield, that is now going to St. Marys City/Mill Creek on June 25-27 and will be chaired by Charlie and Stella Jones. The …
The Cruising Class has had a terrific time together in May. The first event was the VIMS Raft Up Rendezvous on May 8-9, which was attended by over 200 sailors from around the bay. Thirty-seven cruising boats made the trip to our club in the face of some very high winds. On Saturday, many of us attended exhibits, tasted Bay oysters, and were amazed by the size of the Asian species that is being studied by VIMS.
We toured the research vessel, Pelican, met new friends from other yacht clubs, and learned more about tidal surges associated with hurricanes. A silent auction was well attended and featured such fun times as …

Junior sailors from across Tidewater and Central Virginia out-did themselves in this year's Christchurch Leukemia Cup Junior Challenge, although the record-setting effort was not done on the water. Gusty ENE winds scrubbed the scheduled races on the Rappahannock River in this year's regatta at Christchurch, but the young sailors raised almost $21,000 to fight leukemia. "It was an awesome accomplishment," said Kristin Stokes, regatta coordinator for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "This puts things into perspective when we look at what these kids can do."Overall, the 50 or so young sailors representing eight area schools took part. The leading fundraising schools were St. Christopher's of Richmond, Walsingham Academy of Williamsburg and regatta host, Christchurch School …
The title, "25 Years of Sailing," may not excite the masses. Even a young Ted Turner states in an opening film clip from the eve of the U.S.'s loss of the America's Cup in 1983: "I wouldn't say the nation's prestige is at stake. It's just a sailboat race, really."
But a sneak preview of Gary Jobson's one-hour special on ESPN Classic Wednesday night (6 and 9 p.m. PT, 9 p.m. ET) reveals it as more than just a sailing show, skipping from highlight to highlight. There are plenty of those, but this is just for sailors like "Seabiscuit" was just for horse racing fans …
