FBYC's Annual One Design (AOD) Regatta attracted 45 boats, many from other clubs and organizations. Kudos to Becca Doncaster and all her volunteers for running (again!) such a great event and showcasing all that the club and our sailors have to offer. Check out these results:
Flying Scots: 17 Boats
1st--Rob Whittemore; 2nd John Wake
Lasers: 10 Boats
2nd--Jon Deutsch (leading FBYC capturing 4 in the top 5 slots!)
Hamptons: 5 Boats
1st--Latane Montague; 3rd Jackson Montague
Typhoons: 6 Boats
1st--Mike Miller; 3rd--Denton Roberts
Congratulations to all who sailed, keeping this long-standing tradition alive and well!
Nothing beats experience on the tiller! Our Legacy Regatta on SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 honors both FBYC sailor Jere Dennison....and any skipper over 60 years old. There's still time to sign-up online and show those juniors you've got what it takes to win.
This one-day event is for Flying Scots, Classic boats, and one-designs with three or more entries. You can have "youngsters" as crew but not on the helm. Don't have a boat? Enroll in the club-owned boat program and sail one of our three Scots. (But do it now before they are all checked out.)
In the meantime, enjoy this photo of Jere on a Jolly boat. FBYC sailors may go gray but never grow old!

I wanted to share with everyone that Fishing Bay Yacht Club has accepted an invitation to participate in Annapolis Yachts Club's inaugural 3-2-1 regatta. This event is designed specifically for team racing and has participants coming from outside the Chesapeake Bay. FBYC is delighted to receive an invitation to this fall event and looks forward to again demonstrating our capabilities in the northern bay.
At the beginning of the year we discussed strategies for creating and participating in innovative programs that continuously engage our sailors, bring new opportunities for existing membership and attract new members. Participating in this event aligns with this strategy. It is an introduction to a new racing format for our membership and plus …
It was a Caribbean-themed Summer Sea Breeze II Regatta with colorful shirts, a pink flamingo on the race course and 6 races in light air for six Flying Scots on Saturday. John & Sharon Wake won the day and the best dressed. Phil and Susan Webb provided the social and a great time was had on the course and off. RC was Jon Deutsch, Ruthana Jenkins and Britt Drake.
FBYC hosted a fantastic group of ladies (both club members and non) for the annual Women's Clinic. This year eleven women took to the water in three club Flying Scots, a club 420 and a Laser and enjoyed two full days of on-the-water practice with a scattering of chalk talks. Everyone got what they came for which was tons of tiller time and a better understanding of strategy, tactics, and racing rules. Several participants will be out sailing at FBYC in the immediate future including at AOD and the Fall One Design Series. Special thanks to FBYC's Luke Hayes for coaching the beginner group and Premier Sailing's Arabella Denvir for coaching the racers. Also thanks to the One Design Fleet …
Let's remember and honor FBYC sailor, Jere Dennison, in this year's Legacy Regatta, August 24. Jere was a member for more than 40 years and served the club in many different capacities including Commadore.
This one-day event is for Flying Scots, classic boats, and one design classes having three or more boats with skippers 60 years or older. Additionally, skippers 70 years of age or older can compete for the Vintage Skipper Award. Share your wisdom and experience with younger crew members as you compete for bragging rights.

Who's that handsome young man at the tiller of a Dyer Dhow? None other than our cherished and much missed FBYC sailor Jere Dennison. So to both honor and remember his decades of contributions to FBYC, register now on-line for the Jere Dennison Legacy Regatta!
Wind, fog and dead calm infused with heat indexes over 100 degrees did not stop our FBYC Junior Laser sailors from racing fast in the Laser North American Championships in Brant Beach, NJ July 18-21. With more than 120 contenders, including adults, this was the largest regatta for many of our Juniors. Our eight racers, along with their coach, braved the conditions and represented FBYC well. Pictured are Logan Hayes, Guthrie Braun, Joshua Almany, Morey Levy, Jack Cabell, Luke Hayes (CNU), Finn Ciszewski, Coach Alex Zimmermann, Jordan Bendura, Joshua Bendura. Special shout-outs to Guthrie Braun who placed 6th in Laser Radials and Jordan Bendura who placed 18th.

Special thanks to Curtis Stokes & Associates for their support of this event.
This Saturday the YAMs, led by committee members Katie & Arch Durham, will be doing a fun lunch cruise in company to Hole in the Wall Grill. This Jimmy Buffet themed lunch meetup is just a short run up into Gwynn's Island located by land at 384 Old Ferry Rd, Grimstead, VA 23064; or by water just tucked into Wharf's Creek (approximately 5 nautical miles from FBYC).
The first round of 'Boat Drinks' will be on the YAM committee, followed by a pay your own way lunch. Be sure to indicate your intent to join up via our facebook event page: Cheeseburger in Paradise Rendezvous. or contact us directly here: Email YAM Chair.
Airing Friday night at 8:15pm will be the fan favorite "Ghostbusters." This month's movie night will be located behind Fannie's house on the lawn, so bring your favorite picnic blanket or feel free to spectate from the balcony of Fannie's porch.
In anticipation of this fun new venue's use, our club's staff has been kind enough to treat the property for bugs...so there shouldn't be any reason to be scared of ghosts or mosquitoes! All Friday night J70 sailors are encouraged to mosey on over after hauling to join the fun...

Since 2005 we have assembled over 23,000 photos in FBYC's Flickr Account. These pictures have been viewed over 2,000,000 times. Over the years, we have shared our old credentials with many different volunteer photographers. Flickr has now been sold to SmugMug - and in the process they have forced us to change our credentials. Please contact Strother, Brian, Paul Almany, or Karen Soule to get the new credentials so we can keep the photos coming.
