A number of FBYC boats were at the Screwpile Regatta in Solomons Island Maryland this weekend. Hardware was brought home in almost every class. Here's how they finished:

With the end of Junior Week, 49 kids on the FBYC junior race teams began the most intense period of sailing-and racing-many will experience in their entire lives. Over 19 days the teams raced in 7 regattas!
The first regatta was FBYC’s own Junior Olympics, immediately following Junior Week on June 27 & 28. The Opti and Laser Development Teams, and the Opti and Laser Race Teams, all competed. Our kids dominated against teams from AYC, SSA, Tred Avon, Hampton, around the bay and North Carolina. In the Opti division, our own Nathan Smith won Overall, and …

The 17th Annual Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup Regatta held in Deltaville over the weekend of July 10-12 was another huge success with 61 registered yachts and enthusiastic crowds at the Auction and Gala held for the second consecutive year at the Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Point Nature Park.
Typically the Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup Regatta is one of the most successful Leukemia Cup Regattas in the country in spite of being one of the smallest of such national venues, and this year should prove to be no exception. Having four times been voted the Best Regatta on the Bay by the readers of Chesapeake Bay Magazine, the 2015 Regatta is expected to be a strong contender for this honor …
Congratulations to Gannon & Dan Troutman and crew on their 15th place finish at the J/70 World Championship. They were among 78 teams from 16 countries competing. Way to represent FBYC!

Braun took 2nd and Len Guenther was 3rd.
The racing started in the Piankatank off Stove Point and followed a course out the Piankatank near the entrance of Jackson creek and then back up the Piankatank finishing just in front of the club house. It featured, upwind, downwind and everything in between testing the various makes of boat all under 24' waterline and …
OPTI KIDS AND JUNIOR WEEK This year’s Opti Kids and Junior Week smashed all records for numbers and fun! A total of 44 sailors attended Opti Kids and 143 sailors and over 40 full time volunteers and 6 pro coaches attended Junior Week! The weather was perfect. Paul and Julie Ann Wash taught Opti Kids, and every sailor left loving sailing. Doug and Jennifer Bendura then did an amazing job of organizing everything from the class assignments to the tee shirts for Junior Week. There were 13 separate classes this year; 200 kids and their families attended the pool party with the teen band ZigZag, and on Thursday night we hosted 340 at the traditional catered cook …

This past Sunday the Young Adult Members (YAMs) gathered for a wonderful Sunday cruise to brunch at Matthews Yacht Club. Departing Jackson Creek at 0900 aboard past Commodore Lud Kimbrough’s Grady White ‘Daddy-O’. While underway, the group of 11 shared stories, made new friends, and soaked in the gorgeous sunny day while enjoying mimosas courtesy of Jon Deutsch.
Upon arrival into Hudgins Creek, the group was greeted with open arms and welcoming hospitality of MYC’s incredible staff. Between the servers’ southern charm and extensive menu of delicious brunch items at very reasonable prices, we simply couldn’t have asked for more. This club sure does know how to cook and treat its guests!
I have just deleted a whole lot of clearly duplicate registrations - and left two that were the same names but at different addresses with different boats(??). That can be cleared up at the Registration Desk, and if anyone sees they have made a double payment, please try to clear it up at the desk or with me via email next week.

I just wanted to tell everyone what a great time I had at Opti-Kids at Fishing Bay the past two weekends. We learned a whole lot about sailing and boats and had great fun playing in the water. We learned that it’s not scary when a boat turns over and it’s really fun to sail. I made many great friends. We had lots of help from our mommies and daddies and Paul and Julie and Claire. They really helped us a lot. The snacks and watermelon were great. I also loved swimming in the pool after sailing. I hope that I can go sailing more in the future.
When you look at the https://new.fbyc.net/news/ News page, you will see a long list of "Tags" on the left sidebar. New Posts can be tagged so that old posts can be found more easily. We have recently fixed an issue with Tags - now all Tags are converted to "lower case" and they all work again. Generally if you make a new post, try to use an existing tag that makes sense, but it is OK to create new tags as needed. Any multiple word tag should be either typed as one word or connected by a "-" or a "_" to make it work as a single tag. Enjoy. Strother.
The second stop on the Flying Scot Capital District Circuit is the Greater Richmond Sailing Association Invitational. For most of the FBYC road warriors this is the one away event where you can sleep in your own bed (apologies to Len & Barb G.)! GRSA is located on the northern end of the Swift Creek Reservoir about 15 miles southwest of downtown Richmond. Gasoline powered boats are not allowed, so for the most part the sailors have the lake to themselves. It does create some interesting problems for the Race Committee; the RC boat is a battery power outboard. This causes the RC to be very intentional about setting marks, but it is a lake and the wind shifts…so …
