Twenty competitors from five districts from faraway Roswell, New Mexico to New Hampshire to St. Petersburg, Florida braved high winds and hot summer heat to race a three day, nine race series.
Located an hour east of Richmond, Virginia at the mouth of the Rappahannock River on the Chesapeake Bay resembles previous NA host Rock Hall, Maryland's quaint fishing and farming, rural surroundings. FBYC has a unique set-up on the peninsula where dinghies launch from the front of the club off the beach to the Bay, while the larger keel boats dock 50 yards on the opposite river …
Two FBYC boats had podium finishes at the Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge. Cheeky Monkey took 3rd in the 13-boat PHRF-C fleet and Afterthought took 3rd in the 12-boat PHRF-A1 fleet. Congratulations! Also sailing were: Goin', Shenanigan, Double Eagle, Mad Hatter & Schiehallion.
Congratulations to Rob Whittemore and John Wake for finishing 3rd in the Flying Scot NAC. The regatta was held at Lake Norman in very light and trying wind conditions.

The largest team of juniors EVER!!!! This is a dedicated group of young athletes with some outstanding coaches this summer.
25 members of the FBYC Race team, four coaches and many parents hit the road in late June. They participated in five regattas in Maryland. Members of the Laser Race Team, Opti Race Team, as well as some from the Opti Development Team, raced against other junior sailors from all over the east coast.

The Parent's Race is coming up on Wednesday, June 22. This is a fun opportunity for parents of junior week sailors and other sailors to get out on the water for some fun mid-week sailing. We'll sail right off the dock in Fishing Bay.
We welcome anyone interested in sailing a laser or 420 to come out and join us. For anyone who does not have a boat, we will do our best to find one for the evening. Jon will help find boats, so send an email to jon@jdeutsch.com if you are in need of a boat for the evening.
The club is in need of people who would like to learn how to score using our scoring program JavaScore. One of the most critical members of the race committee is the person who sets up races to be scored, gathers the results electronically, double checks the results for inconsistencies, and posts the results for all to view. This is a different role than the recorders who capture the live finishes, although some people do both. Learning how to score gives you an appreciation for how our sport works and is a very active part of the race committee.
The first step is to get a list of people interested in learning this skill. The second step is to hold training sessions to teach people …
SBRW in a nutshell – 89 big boat skippers and crew sailed their brains out for three days in beautiful weather, partied their brains out with rockin’ bands and Gosling’s rum, partook of the downtown pirate festival street skirmishes and swashbucklin’ fun, tried out vendor standup paddle boards, laughed, sang and danced with one another, watched fireworks from the host yacht club lawn and raced, and raced, and raced. The courses were different each day and to take home an award was no easy task. The challenges were in the harbor (triangles – multiple races), off Buckroe in the Bay (a distance race) and off Ocean View in the Bay (windward-leewards – multiple races). The winds were …
