The YAMs had an epic inaugural derby day picnic this past Saturday, entertaining 35+ attendees of all ages ranging from 1 to 50+. Sporting dapper pastels and big dazzling hats, the YAMs began assembling at 1pm in the club’s upstairs for a roaring day of good friends, classy tunes and some good ‘ol fashioned horse races.
Overall the day was highlighted by delicious dishes, tasty signature cocktails, a build-your-own derby hat & sash station, and a compliment of lawn & table games for the kids. Besides the general merriment of the group as a whole, it was clear that everyone is excited to be welcoming warmer weather for the summer sailing season.
Perhaps some of the most excited participants included …
Don't let the forecast deter your excitement about this Saturday's picnic, because rain or shine - this Kentucky Derby race day event will go on.
Stay tuned for event notices during the hours leading up to our event. Should inclement weather present itself we have a rain contingency plan all set for relocating our venue to the upstairs of FBYC's main clubhouse. Perfect spot to spectate the race, watch a storm roll by, and enjoy the very best company in town over a tasty julep!
That's just a backup plan though so, until Saturday, keep your fingers crossed for sunny skies!

Saturday kicks off the One Design race season with the Spring Series Race 1. We’ve Set Fire to the Rain so the forecast calls for sunny skies and winds in the low teens, perfect for racing. We won’t be Rollinin the Deep like the off-shore folks; instead, we will be in Fishing Bay like we normally do with Brad Squires as PRO. And, remembering last year, we all look forward to RuthAnna Jenkins Turning Tables in the kitchen as Social Chair.
Rumor Has It that two weeks ago several boats in the fleet got an early start to the season when a training day was held at the club. We extend many thanks to Rob …
1. Visit our website, click on “Get Sailing/Adult Sailing” and sign-up for a day of sailing lessons on either Saturday, May 6; Saturday, June 3; or Sunday, July 16. You’ll learn basic sailing principles and how to rig a Flying Scot or J24.
2. Once you’ve taken a class, you now qualify as a skipper and can reserve a boat any day of the week. Go cruising or race. It’s up to you.
3. There is NO COST for any of these classes. For a one season charge of $100 per family, you can sail either boat whenever they are available—and reserve one in advance twice a month.

This past winter, PHRF delegates from each club voted and instructed the PHRF Handicappers Board to issue 2017 PHRF ChesBay certificates with ratings for Windward/Leeward and for Circular Random (Random Leg) formats. You will notice on your certificate that there are two ratings: RATING (Spin/NonSpin) and CR Course RATING (Spin/NonSpin).
Fishing Bay amended its online registration to require an entry for each format, and for each rating (4 numbers) in ###/### format, matching the PHRF certificate. 2016 certificates were issued with both ratings, but the actual CR (random leg) rating may be amended for the 2017 certificates based on the handicappers' work during the off-season.
The Opening Day event is now open for registration. …
