The 2001 FrontRunner midwinters were held March 16th through the 18th at Tampa's Davis Island Yacht Club. Six FrontRunners representing FBYC made the trek to DIYC and were greeted with warm conditions. Throughout the morning, the breeze built as the fleet prepared for the afternoon's opening races. The scheduled starting time came and went as crews waited on shore for a break in the gusty 20 to 25 knot winds. Severe thunderstorms were also predicted, but never fully materialized, however the steep chop and strong winds were enough to postpone the regatta's start until Saturday morning. The much anticipated 1st race on Hillsborough Bay began in a 5 knot breeze that faded away to a dead calm …
On April 7 we had a brief ceremony breaking ground on the New Building. Jim Rogers announced our fundraising has reached $285,000. Our Club Chaplain Bill Egelhoff said a prayer for our new building project and for all who plan to enjoy it. Mike Karn announced he anticipated an 8 month construction schedule. And then your flag officers used their gilded shovels to break ground.

Please email me at rbuchanan@cavtel.net (or call at 282-5653) and let me know if you're interested. If you have particular dates that you're available, let me know that as well.

A small committee met last night and decided not to adopt the new Section 26 rules changing how the race committee starts races. Instead we will write our instructions this year to proscribe starts using the familiar red, Blue shapes, etc on the 5 minutes sequences. There is another new rule this year
that requires that all crew on boats be members of recognized yacht clubs. We can not change that rule, however we will add language to our sailing instructions that say in effect - no competitor may protest another boat for failure to follow the new rule about crew being club members.
Jon is a freshman at East Carolina University studying Management Information Systems. He is a Unattached Junior member of FBYC. Four years ago he created fbyclaserfleet.tripod.com
and has maintained it -including adding coverage of last year's Laser Masters. He'll be moving the laser fleet stuff to a folder within fbyc.net and then hopefully will help us develop our site. Jon's e-mail is jon-fbyc@jdeutsch.com
Alain Vincey will be getting E mail soon. He plans to travel to the Laser Worlds in Cork, Ireland in August, 2001.
He will keep FBYC members up to date with his racing results while he is away. It is an open regatta and since he was one of the top 30 Laser Masters last year, he has decided to go for broke!
I work at SAIC and it's pretty cool to see what 'we' are contributing to the America's Cup cause. I'm just waiting for that free ticket to Auckland!

It's time to register for the Junior Week programs. Full details are now posted in the Junior Divison on this site and will appear in the March Log. You can download your application forms from the 'Junior Division' page of this site. Space is going to be limited, particularly for those without their own boats. Ruthanna is urging all parents to get your application in as soon as you can.
Site looks Great
I'll be looking into adding the mailing list option. We might have to add a portal and will most likely need the database up and running in order to store all the additional information we will be gathering.

Web committee members should go to:

there is a folder called "Squishtest" where they need to post content.
