Last week after the upgrade, we identified and fixed a few issues. Yesterday we noticed a new Date issue. The Fall Project Day is on Saturday Dec 6, and it was showing up as Dec 5 in some cases. The issue is now fixed.

Eugene has upgraded Zope, the engine behind the website to the latest version and a few errors are popping up. No event pages are visible and you may find you can not search the database for families at http://www.fbyc.net/Access/Members/Database though Search for Member works fine. Good thing we waited until the sailing season was over! Please let me know if you see other errors so we can address them.
FBYC Juniors continue to show up everywhere! Pictured above (and waiting for the wind) is Laser Race Team member Luke Hayes, who in September clinched Second Place in the Portsmouth Division in the year long series-also sailed against adults-at Lake Townsend Yacht Club, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Luke and fellow Laser Race Team member Nina Willms also mixed it up with the adults at the September and November Laser Regattas at home at FBYC. Team members Ralph Levy, Nathaniel Llewelyn and Graeme Alderman also completed their Fall series in 420s in High School racing in October.

FBYC Opti Race Team member Gannon Troutman skippered-and steered his parent's J-70 Pied Piper at the Chesapeake Bay J-70 Championships on November 1 at the Club to a 9th place finish against adults! FBYC Junior sailor and Laser Race Team member Daniel Resio was among the crew. The conditions were brutal, with gusts to 30 knots and very cold. At one point they suffered a severe knock-down, and Gannon’s Dad, also crewing, went in the water! In the photo above Gannon is receiving the trophy for the Youngest Skipper from Event Chair-and former Junior Division Commander-Noel Clinard.
As reported last month, Eric Roos and Alexander Hanna won the Cressy Singlehanded Qualifier sailed in Lasers and Laser Radials on September 13-14 in Oyster Bay, New York. Eric won the Full Rig, and Alexander the Radial, qualifying them for the Cressy Singlehanded Finals at Bellingham Yacht Club, in Washington State, on October 31-November 2. Both families flew out, and both our sailors raced great against the toughest competition in the country! The first day featured heavy, heavy rains and flat calms. The RC kept both fleets on the water for 8 hours in the downpour, and ran only two short races. Late in afternoon the rains cleared and for a few moments the sun …

On November 9th the Godspeed moored overnight in Fishing Bay. The ship is a replica of the original Godspeed, which brought settlers to Jamestown in 1607. She is normally berthed at Jamestown Settlement. Maybe we can get her back for Junior Week!
Our newest Life Membership has been a member of Fishing Bay Yacht Club for 56 years. He has contributed to FBYC in enormous ways, many of which today, we take for granted as having always been the norm. His contributions are evident in so many areas of our club.
As a competitor, he represented Fishing Bay with with Rappahannock, one of the most competitive boats on the East Coast in the 1970s. Starting in 1974, he sailed in Southern Ocean Racing Circuit and later that year winning the CBYRA Southern Bay High Point award. They did the 1975 Annapolis to Newport Race (in which Ted Turner’s Tenacious was dismasted) and did the 1976 Newport to Bermuda Race. His boat was …

The Laser Fleet closed out their series with a Frostbite day of racing on Sunday in light winds with 9 boats. We had a little bit of a mix up on the scores and I want to apologize for not checking them before the awards as it wasn't until later that we realized they were missing the drop and so what we thought was the final order on Sunday was incorrect.
Stephen Sparkman sailed great all day putting up 3 bullets and ultimately won the day by just 1 making this his first podium finish since returning to the club and the Laser this summer. Jon Deutsch ended up 2nd and Clark Dennison finished 3rd.
The first J70 Chesapeake Championship was held at Fishing Bay Yacht Club in Deltaville, Virginia, on November 1-2. The event saw challenging weather conditions as a cold front rushed into an offshore Low Pressure, creating a NE Gale with gusts above 30 knots and temperatures in the low forties. Faced with large waves and heavy gusts in the Chesapeake Bay, the races were moved into the Piankatank River in Fishing Bay.
In difficult conditions [Hotty Toddy Video], the Race Committee led by John McCarthy, got off two races Saturday before winds exceeded Class Guidelines, consistently gusting above 25 kts. The fleet then sailed back to the Club outside the lee of Fishing Bay, facing winds over 30 …

Spinsheet Magazine profiled Jon Deutsch in their racer profile for November:
How does someone from a powerboat family in Chatauqua, NY, get to Deltaville, VA become a racing sailor, and end up organizing and running the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championships Regatta . . . for which he is not even eligible?
Ask Jon Deutsch. The affable 30-something year old will tell you of a serendipity trail that led to Laser sailing and Fishing Bay Yacht Club (FBYC). Jon grew up in Chatauqua, but his family moved to Virginia in 1995, when his father took a job in Richmond. "My parents had a power boat in New York and joined Chatauqua Lake Yacht Club (CLYC), maily for the social activities," Jon says. But …
We’ve been busy this fall! Our kids have flown our colors in junior regattas from New Jersey to Maryland to Georgia, as well as practicing on Fishing Bay. In our last report in September we covered the USODA Southeastern Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, so we will pick up from there:
After the Southeastern’s, the team travelled with coach David Tunnicliffe to Brant Island Yacht Club, New Jersey, for the Opti ACCs on October 11 and 12. Conditions could not have contrasted more with the lake conditions they experienced in September in Atlanta. It was windy, cold and rainy! The first day the RC postponed for two hours due to high winds. The racing started …
