Over the past three weeks he has rigged and derigged his Sonar 'Prophet' three times; logged thousands of miles driving/towing from Deltaville to Falmouth, MA to Rochester, NY back to Deltaville, back to Rochester and then home again to Richmond. Along the way he also served on race committee for the New England Champs and spent 9 nights in hotels away from his family in support of our Team.

The FBYC Team for the New York Yacht Club Qualifying Series continued its training for the newport event by sailing in the rigorous competition with Sonar veterans at the Sonar North American Championship at RYC in Rochester, New York. Photos of the competitors can be seen here.
SPECIAL REMINDER for racers and cruisers of this upcoming Chesapeake Bay favorite, the annual TURKEY SHOOT REGATTA, October 5-7, 2012, hosted by Yankee Point Marina TURKEY SHOOT is a gathering of classic design (design is at least 25 years old) sailboats to race, socialize, have a darned good time, and support a very, very good cause (all profits go to sponsoring Hospices). The last boats in the Smith Point Race (part of the FBYC Distance Series) finished Sunday morning just before 0200. A total of 13 raced through the night. Brad Miller, Schiehallion, was recognized as the racer who has sailed in and finished the most Smith Point races, 8 of the 9. He was recipient of the FBYC Smith Point Crab Society award. 73rd ANNUAL ONE-DESIGN REGATTA at Fishing Bay Yacht Club experienced thunderstorms and heavy rain on Saturday afternoon, but yesterday brought a gentle 5-8 from the North. The 112 boat regatta raced on four courses including a special Optimist course for 17 youngsters. The San Juan 21 fleet of 14 boats was sailing for the class (East Coast) National Championship. Branin Thorn won the spinnaker group title and Mike Evans the working sails group for 2012. John Aras sailing in the Flying Scot Fleet won the John R. The 73rd Annual One Design Regatta was a huge success with 112 boats racing. Most fleets sailed 6 or 7 races and John Aras sailing in the Flying Scot Fleet won the John R. Hawksworth trophy. Here is some video of the events including the rain shower that came in just after most of the boats had returned to the dock on Saturday afternoon.
The Fishing Bay YC Sonar Team, Blake Kimbrough, skipper, John Wake, jib/bowman and tactician, and Matt Braun, middle crew, finished 7th of 17 at the Sonar New England Championship Regatta sailed this past weekend in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Races were conducted just outside Falmouth Harbor by FYC in moderate to heavy air and massive 3-4 knot Woods Hole current. The team was very competitive in boat speed and were 4th after day 1, but slipped to 7th on Sunday.

This Sunday’s Laser Summer Regatta was well attended and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. The conditions challenged 10 full rigs, and one radial with very shifty wind that got lighter as the day went on. All this kept the RC busy dealing with wind readings between 45 degrees and 125 degrees.
All of the races were very competitive, with numerous position and lead changes, as well as photo finishes. This close racing carried through to the end, as the overall standings for positions 2-5 were not decided until the last 100 yards of the last leg of the last race.
