I could not be more pleased with the launch of our new registration system. Over the last 25 days it has been offered as the preferred option and it has processed 60 successful registrations. Those registrations have included 35 credit card charges. We have not received a single inbound call or email about any substantial issue and 100% of actual payments made were processed without any error. As a result, the Board has approved removal of optional links to the legacy system on the Home page.

This past weekend one of the bathrooms in Fannie’s House was vandalized. The event has been reported to the police. We all need to do our part to protect our facilities from further episodes, which becomes more difficult as we are entering the period of lower activity at the club.

SheJumps is a national organization that supports women being active and outdoors. The regional coordinator approached Kim and Caroline Garrett to see if we would help host a SheJumps event at FBYC. On September 10th, we hosted the event, which involved a morning chalkboard session followed by an afternoon on the water.
During our morning session, the ladies learned how to tie basic knots, sailing terminology, parts of the boat, the points of sail diagram, and general rules of the water. With the help of Carrie Russell as the third skipper, we showed the ladies how to rig a Front Runner, and we set sail for the afternoon.

Fishing Bay's string of 5 consecutive seasons of participating in team racing events around the bay was extended last weekend with an exciting, and significant, win at the Annapolis Yacht Club Inter-Club Team Race Challenge. Fishing Bay's Team for the event, skippers Chris McDowell, Dan Herlihy and Ben Buhl, along with crews Carrie Russell, Jay Buhl, John and Sharon Wake and Mike Karn, with pick-up Annapolis sailor Sam Septembre, took home the championship trophy last weekend in Annapolis, besting teams from Annapolis YC, Eastport YC, Severn Sailing Association and Hampton YC. The event was a two-day, 40-race event sailed in AYC's J22s, with no spinnakers and 3 people per boat.
While there is continuing uncertainty of the actual track Matthew will take, there is little doubt that Deltaville and FBYC will experience heavy wind and high water.
It is the boat owner’s responsibility to secure their vessel. Jackson Creek slip-holders should take necessary precautions to properly secure your boat such as doubling all lines, removing sails, etc to reduce wind-age. Additionally, similar precautions should be taken to secure all boats parked in the One Design Parking Lot.

The final race day of the One Design Series was conducted last Sunday. It was a beautiful, cool, sunny day with northerly winds ranging from 8 to 12 knots. What a nice fall day of racing for the six Flying Scots and four Front Runners that participated. Race officer, Jim Black and crew, ran four W4 races in quick succession followed by a W3 to finish up wind for a swift leisurely sail back to the club. Also on hand for the racing was Rob Whittemore who ran about the course giving vital on-the-water coaching on tactics and sail trim. I am saddened to report on the end of an era with the recent death of Gene Ruark. As owners of Ruark's Marina, Gene and his father had a long history of involvement with FBYC. Until recently, Gene was a member of FBYC. From the 1950's they supplied the Club with committee boats; the first boat was "Black Cat", a converted WW2 utility boat, and later a bit more seaworthy craft named "Wild Cat".
A celebration of Gene's life will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, October 1st, at Clarksbury United Methodist Church in Deltaville. Interment will follow Zoar Baptist Church.
We are now live with our new Event Registration System. We have been testing it for 3 weeks with both paying and non-paying events and with members and non-members. We had a great day for sailing on Saturday for our Laser Fall Regatta. We had 7 sailors out and we took out 6 Lasers and a RIB. Each sailor took two turns running the races while everyone else sailed. Jon jumped from boat to boat and sailed a different boat each race. We did 14 total races in just over 3 hours right off the dock in a 4-6 kt north east breeze. We used Ruthana Jenkin's auto horn to run a 3 minute horn start so all the RC person had to do was hit start, call the over earlys, and record the finishes.
The 77th edition of the Annual One Design Regatta was certainly a hot one with 102 boats and a heat index approaching 20 degrees more than that at times. Most of the racing was completed on Saturday in 8-15 knots of wind with Sunday's racing starting with winds around 11 and dying out as the day progressed.
The 23 boat Flying Scot was won by John Kreidler of Western Carolina Sailing Club, 2nd Rob Whittemore of FBYC and 3rd Sean O'Donnell of NC Community Sailing.

I am very excited to announce that within the next few weeks we will switch from our 15 year old Zope Registration System to a new system. The change means many of the technical issues we see should go away, plus the new system is designed to work well on both computers and mobile.

In the 14 years since construction of the new Clubhouse, FBYC has continued to expand both its physical size and scope of programs. We have almost doubled our footprint, increased substantially the number of stored boats and trailers, hosted more regional and national events, opened our clubhouse to private rental for members, and grown our Junior Division into a flagship youth training program for the Chesapeake Bay that holds events year round. All this has placed greater responsibilities, and sometimes stress, on both our member volunteers and paid staff. We have grown and matured as a club, and it is now time to create a staffing structure that meets the needs of that growth and provides improved members' services.

Stingray Point Regatta Canceled Stingray Light Race ON
It is with deep regret that we have to announce that the Stingray Point Regatta for 2016 is canceled. This includes all racing and social activities at FBYC on Saturday and Sunday. It is our intention to refund most, if not all, fees to boats entered in the event and dinner purchasers. The forecasts, and analysis, at this time give all indications that both days will be a bust.
