As you know, Junior Week is June 20-24. Powerboats and/or inflatable boats with a small engine are needed for the week. Junior Week coaches and staff will operate the powerboats under my supervision with a daily check in/out procedure. Fuel will be provided by FBYC as required at Fishing Bay Harbor Marina with all charges approved by myself or Dixon Cole. Inflatable boats will be secured on shore every night by me and a few dedicated volunteers.
Note: we can always use help early in the morning and in the afternoon.
Please call or e-mail me if you have a small center console or inflatable that may be used for Junior Week …
Nice wind and plenty of racing were just two of the themes from the 36-boat District 11 Championship and US Sailing Singlehanded Championship Area C Elimination at Fishing Bay Yacht Club May 14-15. John MacCausland, from Cooper River Yacht Club, posted 4 bullets and 3 seconds to win the standard rig District 11 Championship and the berth at the US Sailing Singlehanded National Championship in July. Eric Reitinger from Brant Beach Yacht Club finished second while Luke Shingledecker from Severn Sailing Association finished 3rd.
In the Radial fleet Mathew Schofields (AYC/SSA) consistency with all top 3 finishes pushed him to the podium as the top Radial and top junior. Austin Powers was …
For everyone who will be joining us for the Laser District 11 Championship and US Sailing Singlehanded Championship Area C Elimination this weekend I would like to welcome you to Fishing Bay Yacht Club. We have a great regatta planned and a great group of competitors coming so it should be a lot of fun.
The great news about the weather for this weekend is that we should have good wind. Not the epic wind of the Masters regatta we've had the past couple years, but a nice ~10-15 out of the South East. The not-so-great news is that the current weather forecast has a chance of rain and storms for both days. We'll keep our eyes sky …
Saturday was a beautiful sunny day for the offshore fleet. The wind, of course, was in direct contrast to the conditions experienced during Spring Series #2. Instead of testing the fleet's metal with heavy conditions, Mother Nature tested the fleet's patience with super light conditions. The 11 AM start was delayed a little over an hour and a half when the wind began to fill in from the East giving the racers 5 knots (give or take) of wind to see who could gain the advantage with light air trim techniques.
Before the start the racers exchanged friendly banter during the drift-fest. Wavelength graced us with a flawless mast climbing performance akin to Cirque du Soleil. Although they …
The District 11 Championship Pinnie was unveiled at FBYC the other day. Each competitor at the District 11 Championship May 14-15 at Fishing Bay Yacht Club will be given one with their registration (while supplies last so register early!). The pinnie features an image of Lasers on Fishing Bay on the front and a list of the areas D11 covers on the back.
The pinnie is a stretchy lycra garment worn over a life jacket and it helps keep lines and other gear from snagging on a life jacket. It also reduces windage. And you can show your District 11 pride when sailing away regattas and help our sailors look like a group.

After a weekend of big breeze and dramatic windshifts on Chesapeake Bay, you might not expect an out-of-towner to come out on top of the Sperry Top-Sider Annapolis NOOD, where members of the Capital City's strong racing community accounted for the majority of the 220-boat fleet. Nonetheless, when the overall winner was announced, it was Copenhagen resident Thomas Klokwhose team won a three-way tie for first place in the 29-boat J/80 divisionwho came bounding up to accept the silver dish, as well as the real prize, an invitation to join the winners of seven other NOOD regattas at the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Championship, hosted by Sunsail in the British Virgin Islands …
The following report came in from Thomas Klok, brother of Marie Crump, Will Crump's wife. I am told the fleet included 6 former J80 World Champions.
Results available here.

"In light of all the bad news with the recent tornado, here are some good
news.
As you know, I am campaigning my J/80 Guldfaxe for the Worlds in
Copenhagen later this year. As part of the preparation I had entered
this years Annapolis NOOD.
I have previously relied on sailing rockstars to provide the boat with
the edge to win races, but have so far failed to win any regattas.
As a look out the window and see two Osprey hard at work rebuilding their half destroyed nest I am glad they survived and how lucky we all were just 36 hours ago they seem quite content as they now have an unlimited supply of building material nearby. I decided this was the best time to put to paper the events while still fresh at mind. With the gale force winds Saturdays day of sailboat racing was cancelled so the Double Eagle crew went different ways with Sam and Carey Mitchener and Carrie Russell having a shrimp and crab cake dinner at my house. With the high winds and statewide threat of Tornadoes the conversation turned to what to …
After a weekend of unprecedented weather in Deltaville that caused the cancellation of both opening day (storm) and spring series number one (tornado), the offshore fleet got what it hoped for all along, a bright sunny day with 15-20 knot winds oscillating just enough to make it interesting, and coming on just strongly enough to uncover the flaws in every crews' winter preparations. At the end of the day, Craig Wright's AFTERTHOUGHT took top honors in PHRF-A, Miles Booth's SHENANIGAN stood atop the PHRF-B fleet, and Brad Miller's SCHIEHALLION won PHRF-C.
Notable for her years of prior anonimity, Strother Scott's LOOSE CANNON arrived on course with letterring on her hull! LOOSE CANNON finished first in the J-105 fleet, as did …

DELTAVILLE TORNADO - Message from Vice Commodore, Alex Alvis
As most of us are aware, a devastating tornado struck Deltaville on Saturday evening, April 16th. The Opening Day celebration was in progress at the club at the time. Many of our members sustained property damage of varying degrees. There are personal accounts of those directly witnessing and encountering the wind damage. At the time of this writing, no reports have been made of serious injury or fatalities in Deltaville. Gloucester County was not so fortunate.
FBYC is a neighbor and an integral member of the community. A fund raising effort has begun to benefit the Deltaville Community Center conducted by the Deltaville Community Association. The DCA is a central hub responsible …

DELTAVILLE, VA (WWBT) Tuesday, the National Weather Service confirmed a separate, EF2 strength tornado (winds up to 135 miles per hour) was responsible for widespread damage in Deltaville, part of Middlesex County.
Deltaville is known for the water and the boats until Saturday, when it became known for something else.
"As you can see, all the trees are destroyed and splintered," said resident Lydia Strickland.
It seems as if the entire town is cleaning up now. And really, there isn't much choice. Lydia gave us a tour of the worst areas.
"It's just hard to believe that there were two people in that house," Lydia said pointing out a residence where the exterior walls were …
The Blue Shape is path observed on ground and in WAVY video by Strother Scott. Yellow lines are the edges of the path per Glenn Nix's map in the Southside Sentinel - Red Crosses are "approx" location of destroyed houses marked on the Glenn Nix map. It is very difficult to match up the houses on the map with the Glenn Nix destroyed houses - so please interpret a Red Cross as a "House near the cross was destroyed".
