2004 Racing Officials Elected:Randy
Alley has been elected the Offshore Division Commander for FBYC for
2004; Richard Bauer, Jr, will head up FBYC's One Design Division
and Noel Clinard the Juniors.
Based on replies from an offshore racing group inquiry, and the need to find race committee, the decision has been made to cancel the race scheduled for this Sunday, 2nd.
We will conduct a last race on Sat., Nov. 8th, as planned. The race on the 8th, will be one, longer race around government marks, possibly Wolftrap. We encourage spin boats, who may have trouble lining up sufficient crew, to come out and race non-spin for one last fun day on the water.
The race will follow with an oyster roast at the Clubhouse. Please reply by Tuesday, 4th, if you plan to sail so we know how many oysters to keep and how many to throw back. Randy

At the 2003 Annual Meeting the Fishing Bay Yacht Club Board of Directors elected Virgil and Myrtle Miller to Life Membership in recognition for their years of dedication and service to the club. The following statement accompanied this resoluton:
"It was a fortunate day in 1993 when Virgil Miller agreed to serve as Co-Manager of FBYC. The next year he became Manager and immediately set a higher standard of service as his trademark. He performed his assignments professionally, faithfully and well. Virgil has been a positive influence on the growth and change of FBYC during this time and is well respected among our membership. Our members and guests have appreciated his charm and pleasant can do attitude. His special magnetism …
This is a heads up to what will be announced at the skipper's meeting at 0930 tomorrow. For the Closing Day Regatta we will have a Staggered Start Pursuit type race. I have assumed Pelican Cay is the slowest rated boat, so I have scheduled the starting times around her. At the Skipper's meeting, I will hand out
this spreadsheet which defines the starting times for each boat - all depending on the Course Length. The sheet has 2 pages - one works if we start on time, the other is needed if we are delayed.
I have preplanned many courses, which all fit within one of the 9 different lengths on the sheet. The Actual Course, and the Length …
Optis at the Indian Summer. Although the turnout was low, the ones who showed up enjoyed a truly beautiful Deltaville Autumn day. Thanks Will Angus and Charlie Clough for all your help.

When Jack Moseley won the big boat regatta section
of the Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta in his Custom John Townsend

in the National Hospice Regatta next spring in Annapolis.
Cheyenne left the Virginia Capes last week
in hopes of catching a very small weather window to have a go at the sailing
24 hour speed record. However, as David Scully put it, "...with
frontal winds reaching 50 knots shortly after we began the attempt... weather
was too heavy for aggressive speeding and the record attempt officially
ended when a huge wave smashed bodies into the steering wheel, breaking
[the wheel]." Cheyenne turned around and spent the next 24 …

Mr. Roberts was driven around to Fishing Bay by Paul Howle and Mark Wensell in an ever increasing breeze and anchored off our 1/2 dock in anticipation of the 10AM Skippers Meeting. Attendance showed 2 Frontrunners, 2-3 Flying Scots, one Mobjack, and 2-3 420s. White caps indicated 20+ knot winds, some skippers requested an extra hour to clean out the pine tags and hope for more favorable winds. The Meeting reconvened at 11 and the decision was made to abandon racing for the day.
So the FBYC One Design Fall Series will have their 2nd and 3rd days of racing coincident with the Indian Summer Regatta next weekend.
Yesterday's Washington Post forecast for the Upper Potomac was "becoming partly sunny, windy, chilly , wind northwest 15-30 knots".Todays paper forecasts a more normal 6-12 knots but reports that six J-22's capsized yesteday. Also that "when the spume settled, five time champion Betsy Alison, who was leading the regatta, went from first to 15th oveall because of a second OCS in seven races". Races were cancelled after the first race yesterday. Rolex Results are available showing Marie Klok Crump in 29th place.
Some of you have asked about power, and you should know that as of last Friday, the power was restored to FBYC. Word has it that three large C. W. Wright trucks were in the neighborhood about the time the power was restored.
FYI, our Treasurer, Mason Chapman is the new CFO of C. W. Wright. It is unknown whether our Treasurer is due any credit for getting our power restored!
As promised, we are announcing the revisions to the fall racing schedule as a result of the dispurtions of Hurricane isabel.

Many members have been back to Deltaville to check their property and help clean up debris since Isabell left last Friday. And those who live there have certainly had their fill of clearing roadways, removing trees from their homes, and living without power and water.
For this coming weekend all racing has been cancelled and all members are invited to the club to help clean up debris and repair docks starting at 8.30 am Saturday. After two days of concerted effort we will be in a much better position to decide on whether we can hold any more races in 2003 for trailered One Design boats starting on October 4. But an announcement on the schedule, for both the …
Many members and employees in Deltaville are without water and power.
Please help them by taking bottled water to the club when you next visit.
We'll find a way to get it to the needy, and your concern will be appreciated.
Let's go with at least four one gallon bottles per vehicle.
And least you wonder while we have some 11M gallons of treated water in our storage tank we cannot access this until power is restored.
The club came through Isabels rampage with no obvious damage to any of our buildings, but with major damage to the Fishing Bay dock and the East dock on Jackson Creek. As of Saturday the road along Fishing Bay had been cleared of downed trees allowing ready access to the club. Those few who visited the club that day had a taste of what to expect after seeing downed trees on the drive to Deltaville, and the carnage exacted on many of the docks on Fishing Bay. Three large pines near the water tank fell into the Jackson Creek parking lot, and some trees on the Stull property fell over the fence dividing FBYC property from our new neighbor. As …
Bouy #41002 is about 200 miles SE of Hatteras. Looking at the four graphs in Read More which were as of 10AM this morning, you can see that the air pressure dropped dramatically and now is rising again, the wind has shifted from the NE to Westerly.
You can also see the wind gusts have peaked at 65 Knots and the wave height at about 30 feet.
